For motivated and target driven women, a career in sales can make you a lot of money as many sales jobs are commission based. Meaning that if you perform well, your rewards will reflect that. Many sales roles are also very flexible, so you may be able to choose which days you want to work a week or fortnight in advance. This gives you control about how many hours you do and what days you do them on.
Teaching is also a field to consider. If your kids are at school age then teaching will correspond to your children’s hours and make it easier to do the school run before you go to work, and pick them up after. As school often finishes before a traditional 9-5 job, you will find that you save money and time looking for somebody or paying a nanny to look after your children before you get home. You can also teach on-line, which allows ultimate control over your time. An added benefit to on-line teaching is having the weekend as days to work too, as students may need help everyday of the week, including the weekends when they are facing coursework or assignments. Bear in mind that you also get the long summer breaks to spend time with your children.

Freelance secretarial, accounting and writing jobs are abundant, and if you can keep motivated and on schedule, can be a regular source of income.
Healthcare is never short of jobs. The hours and relatively good pay can be ideal for a single mothers. Since nursing is a round the clock job night shifts, when the kids are sleeping, could mean that you never have to leave your kids with a minder. The training for nursing is also relatively short.
